Position Title: Climate Smart Agriculture and Research Officer

Location: Abuja

Reporting To: Director General, Nigerian Agribusiness Group (NABG)

Responsibilities:

The Climate Smart Agriculture and R&D Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring climate-smart agricultural practices and research initiatives within NABG. This role will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, conducting field research, and developing innovative solutions to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability. Additionally, the officer will lead advocacy efforts for the adoption and implementation of climate-smart agriculture policies at both federal and state levels.

  • Develop and implement climate-smart agricultural strategies and practices.
  • Conduct assessments and identify opportunities for integrating climate resilience into agricultural systems.
  • Promote sustainable land management practices, including soil health, water management, and biodiversity conservation.
  • Provide technical support and training to farmers and agribusinesses on climate-smart practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of climate-smart initiatives on agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.
  • Design and conduct research projects to address key challenges in agriculture and identify innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with research institutions, universities, and other stakeholders to advance agricultural research.
  • Analyze data and generate reports on research findings, providing actionable recommendations for implementation.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in agriculture and integrate relevant innovations into NABG’s programs.
  • Develop and manage R&D budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Lead advocacy efforts for the adoption and implementation of climate-smart agriculture policies at federal and state levels.
  • Engage with policymakers, government agencies, and other key stakeholders to promote policy changes and support for climate-smart agriculture.
  • Develop policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy materials to support NABG’s policy objectives.
  • Represent NABG in policy dialogues, conferences, and workshops to advocate for climate-smart agricultural practices and policies.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, research institutions, and private sector partners.
  • Represent NABG at conferences, workshops, and other relevant events to share insights and promote our work.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building among stakeholders to enhance the adoption of climate-smart practices.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, briefs, and presentations on climate-smart agriculture and R&D activities.
  • Document best practices, case studies, and success stories to showcase NABG’s impact.
  • Ensure timely submission of reports and documentation to relevant stakeholders and donors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Agronomy, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in climate-smart agriculture, agricultural research, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in agriculture.
  • Proven experience in conducting field research and managing R&D projects.
  • Experience in advocacy and policy development, with a track record of engaging with policymakers and government agencies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate research findings into practical solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software and tools.
