Policy Advocacy
Strategic Objective 1: Influence and support the development and implementation of policies and reforms that positions agribusiness as a key driver for growth.
Strategic Outcome 1: Appropriate and relevant agribusiness programmes are supported by effective and coherent policies and regulatory frameworks.
NABG will support the GoN at the federal, state and local levels and also identify and support on-going efforts to develop policies through their participation at policy fora and also lead the development of policy documents at the national level.
Focus area.
Strategic outcome 1 focuses on influencing the development and promotion of policies and reforms that effectively reposition agribusinesses on the path to recovery and sustainable growth and contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 8, 9, and 12.
In partnership with the Government of Nigeria (GoN), various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), private sector, Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs), and Smallholder farmers’ groups, NABG will implement interventions that support the execution of policy reforms that promotes agribusiness strengthening in Nigeria.
Expected Output
Four outputs will contribute to strategic outcome 1:
1. Development or review of existing policies in agricultural production and extension services, livestock and fishery.
2. National and state level institutions will benefit from capacity enhancement in the agricultural statistics, routine data collection, analysis, and agricultural information.
3. GoN will benefit from the technical assistance and capacity strengthening in conducting using poverty analysis data and information.
4. Policies that align, increase, and promote agriculture and national and regional trade.
Key activity: Support the technical capacity of federal, state and local actors in development and review of effective policy and reforms frameworks.
To achieve the key activity, NABG will:
1. Provide policy advice in the development or review of existing policies in agricultural production and extension services, livestock and fishery reflecting new emerging issues and the preparation of relevant implementation strategies where required.
2. Train and enhance capacity of national and state level institutions providing agricultural statistics, tracking the SDG indicators, routine data and agricultural information.
3. Provide capacity development for government use in poverty analysis and multi-sectoral coordination and building understanding and capacity on meeting SDG 1 and 2.
4. Promote policies that aligns agriculture and trade to contribute towards the Malabo goal of increasing regional trade.
