Nigeria Agricultural Commodity Standards Grading Policy (NAgCSGP)

Policy Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of this policy is to establish the Nigeria Agribusiness standardized guidelines for the grading of agricultural commodities. These guidelines aim to ensure consistency in quality and pricing while protecting consumers from substandard products. The policy provides a structured framework for categorizing agricultural produce or products into uniform lots based on shared characteristics, which may include size, flavor, ripeness, staple length, location specificity, wholesomeness, dryness, water content, and other relevant attributes.

Policy Goals
The NABG Agricultural Commodity Standards Grading Policy (NABG AC-SGP) seeks to position Nigeria’s commodity market to harness the benefits of standardized grading. This approach will lead to uniformity in produce quality, enable differential pricing, boost market demand, mitigate trading risks, and enhance transparency in commodity transactions.

The implementation of NABG AC-SGP will usher in a new era of transparency, equity, and profitability for Nigerian farmers and agribusinesses. By making the commodity market more predictable and investable, it will attract financial products from banks and other financial institutions, thereby improving access to capital. Additionally, the policy will streamline trading processes, eliminating redundant inspection activities and making the market more efficient.
